Post-treatment for increased tool life Product information An optimised surface finish, which is matched to the material to be machined, results in a significant increase in tool life. A suitable post-treatment can have a positive effect on the service life of the knurling wheel. We offer various treatment options. Which post-treatment ultimately provides the best result depends in all cases on the specific application. The method used, the material to be machined and the size of the knurling wheel are only a few influencing factors which affect the service life. We therefore offer several possibilities: Polished knurl wheels For the treatment of adhesive materials, which require optimal removal of the chip, we recommend the use of finely polished knurling wheels. This very fine polishing process results in very smooth surfaces with a low coefficient of friction The edge rounding on the tooth flanks prevents the formation of split edges and thus an early tooth break. Polished knurl wheels are a cost-effective alternative to hard metal knurling wheels, which are very often used in ground version for adhesive materials. Heat treatment in salt bath TENIFERh-nitrided knurl wheels The post-treatment of the knurl wheel in a salt bath following the TENIFERh procedure is used to increase the wear resistance and the fatigue strength. By the salt bath nitro- carburizing process, a high edge hardness can be achieved. Surface treatment PVD coatings With a suitable PVD coating of the knurl wheels the user is given further possibilities to influence the service life. TiN, TiCN, TiAlN, TiAlCN coatings are available as variants. PVD coatings are mainly used in knurl forming applications. The ideal post-treatment should be defined through a series of experiments for the particular application. www.precitool.de 18/287
